Touchscale Advanced Programming and Repair

Pre-read this entire page before you begin If you wish to make your Touchscale work faster or change the auto-off time please follow these instructions. We do not recommend any of this because it may cause your scale to be unstable,Ê slightly inaccurate or burst into flames (just kidding). You can always change it back to the default settings.

This is not an easy procedure and must only be done if necessary. Low batteries are the #1 cause of scale malfunction, so be sure you have good batteries installed. Place the scale on a flat stable surface that has no vibrations and make sure there is absolutely no air movement. Make sure the scale is not turned on. Make sure nothing (not even the plastic tray) is on the silver platform and the scale is turned Off.

  1. Turn the scale ON
  2. Press and hold the OFF key for 10 seconds.ÊThe display will then change from 0.0 to a random large numberÊ(such as 583, 1088, etc). This is the gravitational number. If this number is above 1400, then see the bottom of this section.
  3. Gently place a 100g standard weight on the platform. The displayed figure will increase. Be very gentle at each step.
  4. Wait 5 seconds for the display to stabilize and then press the OFF key once. The display should change to 2000.
  5. If the display does not show 2000, Change the 0000 figure to 2000 by pressing the MODE key. If you make a mistake and press it too many times, you can just keep pressing it until you get it back to 2000. If necessary you can press the TARE key to shift the blinking digit to the next spot and then use the MODE key to change that number also.
  6. Press the OFF key. The display should show 6114.
  7. Press the OFF key again. The display should show 8295.

If you want to make the scale perform faster, press the MODE key to change this number to 4255.ÊPress the MODE key several times to change the first figure to 4. This sets your scale to weigh faster.

If you want the scale to have a longer auto-off time then change the second digit to a higher number.Ê This is done by pressing the TARE key to shift the blinking digit to the second row. Now you can press the MODE key to increase the number. What we mean is the 2 in 8295 is the number of 30 second increments before auto off. If you set it to a higher number (3 for example) it will have a longer auto-off time. So, 8395 will be a 90 second auto off time,Ê 8495 will be a 120 second auto off time, 8595 will be a 150 second auto off time and so on.
  8. Press the OFF key again. The display will show "0ff" and the scale will turn off in 2 seconds, which means the calibration and advanced programming is completed.
  9. Remove the 100g weight from the platform.
  10. Turn the scale back on and test some weight readings.

Remember, you can always change your scale back to the default settings. If your scale is not operating properly, try changing it back to the default settings or verify that your settings are correct. Usually that will fix any problem you are having with your Touchscale.

Touchscale "Last Ditched Effort" REPAIR GUIDE
This is an extremely advanced repair guide for the Palmscale These instructions are only to be used if you are absolutely sure your scale is "beyond repair" and you would like to make a last ditched effort to get it working again. This should only be used for scale problems that were caused by extreme shock or overload that bends the load cell too far down.

  1. Turn the scale on. "Err" may appear. Just turn it on anyway.
  2. Press and hold the OFF key until the display turns into a random number.
  3. If the random number is higher then 1400, that means the load cell has been overloaded. You can try prying up on the tray until the random number (the AD Value) changes to a number closer to 1000 (ie 750 or 1100). Basically you're bending the load cell back upwards trying to get the scale to come back to use.
  4. Proceed to advanced recalibrate the scale as shown in the instructions above and hopefully it will work fine.

"Flashing 88888" Underload Repair
This will help you if your scale is flashing intermittently "88888".  The flashing 88888 indicates that the scale has been underloaded.  What this means is that the scale was dropped or shocked and the load cell was bent upwards.  This can often be repaired by simply pressing down on the weighing platform to lightly bend the load cell back downwards.  Be careful not to press too hard - basically you want to use just enough force to get the scale to work.

  1. Turn the scale ON (it will flash 88888)
  2. Press down on the tray with light-medium force and release.  If the scale stops flashing 8888 and shows 0 (0.0) you are done.  If the scale continues to flash 88888 then try pressing a bit harder, and repeat
  3. If you are unable to get the scale to work properly using this method then you must send the scale in for warranty replacement/repair.   Please follow our warranty instructions.
