User Manual
Flipscale ...
Flipscale Owner's Manual
Low Batteries & bad battery connections are the #1 cause of scale malfunction and inaccuracy! We test all of our scale returns from consumers. Fully 60% of consumer returns are battery related problems. This sounds silly but it's true! A scale will perform slowly, or read inaccurately when it has low batteries. Please replace the batteries often (and only use good quality batteries). We include good quality batteries with all of our scales but batteries can run low in storage. If your scale simply won't turn on while on Battery power, this is often caused by loose battery connections. Battery prongs (terminals) are made of metal. They must be making good contact with your batteries in order for the scale to power on. You can use a paperclip to slightly bend the battery prongs to make them have a better connection. Also some poorly designed batteries have recessed or partially obstructed battery terminals. This may cause your prongs to be touching the plastic housing of the battery instead of the metal battery terminal.
Flipscale Specific Error Codes & Troubleshooting:
1) If the Display ever becomes locked on errl or err, this is a fatal error code and indicates that the scale was shocked, dropped or otherwise damaged and the delicate weighing sensors have been damaged. You can try recalibrating the scale (If the sensor has not been hurt too badly it may work again after recalibration). Otherwise you will have to follow the warranty instructions that came with your scale. Usually this happens when a scale has been shipped and improperly packed or mishandled by a shipping company.
2) If during calibration the scale shows "Cal" but will not go to "Load 100" this indicates a zero mark error. Please try repeating calibration a few times, if the scale will not calibrate then the zero error is fatal. This means the scale will have to come back to us for service or replacement. Zero mark errors happen due to shock or overload, the load cell becomes slightly bent and the processor of the scale cannot determine a stable "zero" to use for calibration.
3) If the display becomes locked on 8888, this often indicates low batteries. However sometimes it also may indicate a serious zero mark error. This means when you turn the scale on, it can't determine what zero is (a slight zero mark error will cause situation #2 above, but a serous zero mark error will cause the scale to not even be able to show 0.0 when you turn it on. Thus, if new batteries do not fix this error the scale will have to be sent to us for replacement under our Lifetime/30 year warranty program.
Although the Flipscale is designed to be extremely durable, It’s important that you never overload or drop/shock the scale. This scale is still a delicate instrument and must be treated with care and caution. Scales are delicate instruments and unlike Cellular phones, scales have delicate sensors that determine how much an item weighs. If you drop or shock your scale, these sensors "feel" the shock and are sometimes destroyed. This happens with all digital scales. We design our scales to be as resistant to shock or drops as possible, however there is no way for us to protect 100% against load cell or sensor damage. A well-treated scale will provide years of reliable and accurate weighing. However an abused scale will only work until it is damaged.
Flipscale Manual
Thank you for purchasing The Flipscale. With normal care and proper treatment it will provide years of reliable service Please read all operating instructions carefully before use.
PROPER OPERATION AND ENVIRONMENT
- Avoid lengthy exposure to extreme heat or cold, your scale works best when operated at normal room temperature. Always allow the unit to acclimate to a normal room temperature before use.
- Allow sufficient warm up time. Usually 30 seconds before calibration to give the internal components a chance to stabilize.
- The cleaner the environment the better. Dust, dirt, moisture, vibration, air currents and proximity to other electronic equipment can all cause an adverse effect on the reliability and accuracy of your scale.
- Handle with care. Gently apply all items to be weighed onto tray top. Although this scale is designed to be quite durable, try to avoid rough treatment as this may permanently damage the internal sensor.
- Avoid shaking, dropping or otherwise shocking the scale. This is a precision instrument and must be handled with extreme care.
- Only operate the scale on a stable, vibration free surface.
- Delay - scale has a built in delay after pressing buttons for accuracy.
- Remove the batteries if you plan to store the scale for longer then 10 days
- These electronic scale are precision instruments. Avoid disturbing environmental conditions such as currents, vibrations, strong electrical and magnetic fields as well as a rapid change of the ambient temperature.
BATTERY OPERATION
- Two CR 2032 size Lithium batteries are required.
- Release the battery cover by sliding out-wards.
- Place batteries into battery compartment aligned correctly. Be Carefull not to push on the tray while replacing batteries.
- Replace battery cover.
- The scale is now ready for battery operation.
CALIBRATION
Important: Always perform calibration procedure after first turning the unit on and allowing time for it to warm up and stabilize. 30 seconds should be sufficient. For best results repeat this process at regular intervals if the scale is subject to weather or altitude changes. Incorrect calibration can occur if you do not follow the steps exactly. If your scale does not perform accurately, please try replacing your batteries before you calibrate. Brand new scales may require multiple calibrations during the load cell break-in time. The scale must be on a stable, vibration free surface
Calibration Procedure:
- Turn scale on and allow unit to stabilize for 30 seconds. Press and hold the ÒCAL/MODEÓ key for 6 seconds then release. The display will show CAL then CAL 0, then LoAd 100g will appear (Wait for "Load 100g" to appear before proceeding).
- Gently place the 100 gram weight on the scale and wait.
- The scale will flash 100g, then DONE, then 100g. Gently remove the weight. Calibration is complete.
- If after calibration your scale does not read accurately, this indicates calibration error and the calibration process should be repeated.
SEGMENT POWER UP TEST
When first turning the unit on, all segments of the display will appear as shown below. This display will remain for approximately 3 seconds and then reset to zero. The display may also change brightness before 0.0 or 0.00 appears. 88888
STABLE READING INDICATION
This is a very precise scale - the display may seem to wander or jump when weighing. This is due to air currents or vibrations. Stable weighing is achieved when the small o appears in the top left corner of the display.
OVERLOAD
When an applied load exceeds the capacity. ÒErrÓ will appear on the display. Remove excessive load immediately. The unit may return to normal operation. Remember, You can permanently damage the scale by overloading it!
NEGATIVE VALUE
Any tarred value or a value left in memory will be displayed as a negative number when all weight is removed from the unit. Press tare to reset the scale.
TARE
The tare feature is designed to allow the user to reset the scale to zero for certain circumstances. Tare can be used to eliminate the value of a pan liner, scoop, beaker etc. Place the container on the weighing tray, wait for a stable reading and then press "TARE". The unit returns to zero and the weight value of the container is permanently removed for the remainder of the procedure.
Note: When all weight is removed from the weighing tray, the tared value of the container will be displayed as a negative number. Press the "TARE" again to return to zero or cycle the power on the scale.
KEY PAD FUNCTIONS
CAL/MODE
Mode selection: Press and release the key once to change weight unit. Calibration: Depress this key for four seconds to begin calibration as outlined under the Calibration Procedure on the next page.
ON/OFF
Press this key to turn unit on. Once the unit is on, press and hold the same key to turn the scale off
TARE
Press tare to reset the scale to zero. Tare can be used for eliminating from a sample (or a procedure) the weight value of a container weight is permanently removed for the remainder of the procedure. Note: When all weight are removed from the weighing tray, the tared value of a container will be displayed as a negative number. Cycle the power on the scale to reset the scale to zero.
Auto OFF
An auto shut off feature is provided to conserve battery power. The unit will automatically turn off after approximately 2 minutes of inactivity.
PROTECTIVE COVER
The scale has a unique built in protective cover. The cover is designed to open to two positions. Select the position that is best suited to your weighing needs. The Flipscale is the only scale in the world with this special patented cover / upper LCD. Please be gentle when opening the cover to avoid damage to the hinge.
The Flipscale is the most innovative pocket scale ever created. Please remember that this is a precision instrument. It is essential that you never drop, shake or otherwise mishandle this instrument. Electronic precision scales use delicate sensors that can easily be damaged if the scale is excessively shocked, dropped or overloaded. If you treat your Flipscale well, it will serve you well. Please be good to your Flipscale! My Weigh is the Best Weigh!
Flipscale Advanced Programming
The Flipscale is customizable. You can change the auto-off time and the default readings (g/oz/ozt/dwt). You can also increase the capacity (although it's not recommended). Each Flipscale has extra capacity built in to make it more durable. This is the best pocket scale ever created.
The Flipscale 125 is really an underclocked 250g x 0.05. The Flipscale 350 is really an underclocked 550g x 0.1. You can set the scales back to these higher capacities. However, we do not recommend doing so. Regardless, these instructions will help you customize your Flipscale.
- Turn the scale ON
- Press and hold the TARE and CAL/MODE keys at the same time until SET / UNIT appears on your display
- You are now in the advanced programming mode. CAL/MODE and TARE are the buttons you will use to set and then change each scale setting.
- Press CAL/MODE once and the display will show "A.OFF". This is the auto-off setting. If you want to change the auto off then press the TARE key. Now you are in the auto-off programming mode. Press CAL/MODE until you have set the desired amount of auto-off time. Your choices are in seconds: 120, 180, 240, 300 or OFF (meaning the scale will not auto off). Once you have chosen the amount of auto off time that you want press TARE to exit this mode.
- Press CAL/MODE again and "CAP." Will appear on your display. If you wish to overclock your scale press the TARE key (otherwise press CAL/MODE to go to the next setting). Now you are in the capacity settings. Press CAL/MODE to choose between the various capacity settings (don't set the Flipscale 350 any higher than 500). Once you have chosen your preferred capacity setting then press TARE to exit this mode.
- Press CAL/MODE again and "End" will appear on the display. Press the TARE key to exit advanced programming mode and save your new settings. You must exit this way or your settings will be lost. If you simply press OFF during advanced programming the scale will revert to the last saved settings.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you don't alter the capacity of the scale. This is for informational purposes only. If you ever exceed the recommended capacity of the scale you void all warranties. We can tell when a scale has been overloaded.
Also, if you increase the capacity, the scale will ask you for a 200g calibration mass instead of a 100g. It's a smart scale so it knows when you increase the capacity to change to a higher calibration mass setting in order to remain very accurate. If you change it back to the lower capacity settings, it will revert to asking for the 100g mass.
If you overclock the Flipscale 125 to 250g, there is an auto-revert feature that will cause the scale to read in 0.1g increments intead of 0.05g. The scale will go back to 0.05g increments if/when you change the capacity back to 125.
