iBALANCE 101

The iBalance 101 is the perfect Lab / Reloading / Precision scale. It reads 100 grams in 0.005 gram increments. The iBalance comes complete with a F2 Calibration weight and AC Adaptor. The extra-large Backlit LCD makes for easy reading. Included wind cover slides open on 3 sides for ease of use. The base of the scale has height adjustable rubber feet, these are used in combination with the included level bubble so you can set the scale at a perfectly flat angle (for optimum accuracy).

This scale reads in 8 Standard modes for a wide array of uses. It also has a parts counting feature which can count items as small as a grain of rice, and give you the total amount of items placed on the scale. According to the World Diabetes Foundation, there are about 285 million people living with diabetes. That is about 6.4% of the world population. While this number is expected to grow over the next 20 years, there is a significant movement being made to assist people that have diabetes. This is why having both a kitchen scale and a pocket scale is essential for diabetics. Over the past decade, the advent of lower cost high precision sensors has enabled us to offer higher precision at a very reasonable cost. Because of this, consumers now demand higher precision for their weighing needs. Most manual scales from the 1980's were accurate within 10 grams. Most digital scales from the 1990's were accurate within 5 grams. Now most scales are accurate even below 1 gram. Modern scales that are accurate to 0.1 gram are perfect for weighing foods that are not high sugar items, while using scales that are accurate to the hundredth or 0.01 gram are better suited for weighing sugar or high sugar items. When weighing high sugar items it is illogical to weigh in less accurate (ie 1 gram) increments when they can now weigh in more precise 0.01 gram increments. While 0.01 gram scales used to be expensive, nowadays the prices are so low for these scales there is no longer any excuse to risk health by weighing in larger increments. An extra 0.05 grams can be the difference between needing an injection or not. There is no reason to chance it. Remember that a scale that reads in 1 gram increments will be accurate usually +/- 1 gram (meaning what you think is 1 gram could be 2.5 grams – over time the accumulation of this excess sugar in your system can have consequences).

The Ketogenic Diet

There has been some discussion and questions about which scale is adequate for use with the Ketogenic Diet. We have developed several scales that happen to be particularly suited for this use. It is important to use a 0.01 gram measuring scale for this requirement. In addition the weighing device must be pocket sized in order to ensure that you will be able to travel with the scale and take it to restaurants. While a table sized balance may be slightly more accurate, we have seen over the past 10 years that most long term users of weighing devices for the Ketogenic Diet prefer portability over extreme accuracy. The needs of a consumer seeking weighing devices for the Ketogenic Diet differ slightly from that of a Diabetic sugar monitor weighing requirement. While both do require high precision, Ketogenic weighing often requires more precision with less tolerance. As a matter of policy We do not directly recommend any diet or scale for this diet and ask you to speak with your physician for the proper scale required for your needs. Only your physician knows if the diet is right for you and which type of weighing device will match your particular needs.

The Ketogenic Diet rigid diet is for the treatment of epileptic seizures, either in conjunction with, or in place of anticonvulsant. The diet is recommended for seizure control when anti-convulsants and medications have failed. The Ketogenic Diet is a therapeutic and specially calculated diet that is high in fat and low in protein and carbohydrates. The diet is supplemented with vitamins and calcium, so patients do not suffer from any nutritional imbalance. It is extremely important to weigh all foods and calculate protein and caloric percentages during the entire diet. Certain scales such as the Palmscale PS8-300 may be particularly well suited as the calculation function can be used to compute caloric intake.
