PALMSCALE "Last Ditched Effort" REPAIR GUIDE:
This is an extremely advanced repair guide for the Palmscale. These instructions are only to be used if you are absolutely sure your scale is "beyond repair" and you would like to make a last ditched effort to get it working again. It can only be used for scale problems caused by shock or overload that bends the load cell too far down.

  1. Turn the scale ON. "Err" may appear. Just turn it on anyway.
  2. Follow the instructions above to get to the gravitational random number.
  3. If the random number is higher then 1000, that means the load cell has been overloaded. You can try prying up on the tray until the random number (the AD Value) changes to a number lower then 1000 (ie 500 or 800). Basically you're bending the load cell back upwards trying to get the scale to come back to use.
  4. Turn the scale OFF (or follow the instructions above to complete the advanced calibration.
  5. Proceed to recalibrate the scale and hopefully it will work fine.

Please email us to let us know if these instructions have worked for you or if you found some other way to get your scale working again.

PALMSCALE "Flashing 88888" Underload Repair:
This will help you if your scale is flashing intermittently "88888". The flashing 88888 indicates that the scale has been underloaded. What this means is that the scale was dropped or shocked and the load cell was bent upwards. This can often be repaired by simply pressing down on the weighing platform to lightly bend the load cell back downwards. Be careful not to press too hard - basically you want to use just enough force to get the scale to work.

  1. Turn the scale ON (it will flash 88888)
  2. Press down on the tray with light-medium force and release. If the scale stops flashing 8888 and shows 0 (0.0) you are done. If the scale continues to flash 88888 then try pressing a bit harder, and repeat
  3. If you are unable to get the scale to work properly using this method then you must send the scale in for warranty replacement/repair. Please follow our warranty instructions.

Palmscale Specific Error Codes & Troubleshooting:

1) If the Display ever becomes locked on err, and the above guide does not help you to repair this error, then this is a fatal error code and indicates that the scale was shocked, dropped or otherwise damaged beyond user repair. The delicate weighing sensors have been damaged. You will have to follow the warranty instructions that came with your scale. Usually this happens when a scale has been shipped and improperly packed or mishandled by a shipping company.

2) If the display becomes locked on 8888, this often indicates low batteries. However sometimes it also may indicate a serious zero mark error. This means when you turn the scale on, it can't determine what zero is (a slight zero mark error will cause situation #2 above, but a serous zero mark error will cause the scale to not even be able to show 0.0 when you turn it on. First try new batteries, then try the advanced guide above. If neither of these things fix the error, the scale will have to be sent to us for replacement under our Lifetime/30 year warranty program.

Yes, we know that it absolutely "stinks" when a scale is broken beyond repair. The problem is that scales are much more delicate then other instruments (such as cell phones) and they are susceptible to damage from shock or overload. You can drop most cell phones many times and they will continue to work properly. However a scale is designed to measure loads, thus a shock is measured as a load and picked up by the internal sensors of the scale. Too high of a shock will permanently damage the sensors.

Sensors can only be replaced by our technicians in a laboratory style clean room facility

Please contact us to let us know if these instructions have worked for you or if you found some other way to get your scale working again.

The Myweigh Advantage

Myweigh and Diabetes

According to the World Diabetes Foundation, there are about 285 million people living with diabetes. That is about 6.4% of the world population. While this number is expected to grow over the next 20 years, there is a significant movement being made to assist people that have diabetes. This movement is the accelerated need for both kitchen and pocket scales to assist in weighing food, especially high sugar items. The boom in Diabetics directly correlates to the boom in sales of portable precision weighing instruments as well as less portable weighing devices such as kitchen scales. My Weigh is #1 in this market with more Diabetics using My Weigh for sugar weighing than any other brand.

Precision weighing scales can be very helpful to diabetic users both at home and on the go. While having a kitchen scale at home was the standard 10 years ago, most kitchen scales are large and are not very portable, making them difficult to take to your office or to a restaurant. This is why having both a kitchen scale and a pocket scale is essential for diabetics. If you already have a typical kitchen scale that is not very portable, consider supplementing your weighing with a portable pocket sized scale such as the Palmscale®. There are many new and very convenient scales that can fit in a purse or coat pocket to easily weigh on the go. My Weigh offers contemporary designed scales for this function that are durable, precise and downright beautiful.

Over the past decade, the advent of lower cost high precision sensors has enabled us to offer higher precision at a very reasonable cost. Because of this, consumers now demand higher precision for their weighing needs. Most manual scales from the 1980's were accurate within 10 grams. Most digital scales from the 1990's were accurate within 5 grams. Now most scales are accurate even below 1 gram. Modern scales that are accurate to 0.1 gram are perfect for weighing foods that are not high sugar items, while using scales that are accurate to the hundredth or 0.01 gram are better suited for weighing sugar or high sugar items. When weighing high sugar items it is illogical to weigh in less accurate (ie 1 gram) increments when they can now weigh in more precise 0.01 gram increments. While 0.01 gram scales used to be expensive, nowadays the prices are so low for these scales there is no longer any excuse to risk health by weighing in larger increments. An extra 0.05 grams can be the difference between needing an injection or not. There is no reason to chance it. Remember that a scale that reads in 1 gram increments will be accurate usually +/- 1 gram (meaning what you think is 1 gram could be 2.5 grams – over time the accumulation of this excess sugar in your system can have consequences).

As you can see, we are very excited about the progress being made in the fight against diabetes. There are many different scales that are each unique and helpful in different ways. We strongly recommend that you utilize a kitchen scale for your home and a pocket scale for weighing on-the-go.. This way you will be prepared both at home and on the road. There is truly no longer any excuse for not monitoring your sugar intake with a weighing device. After all, health is paramount. Trust My Weigh for all of your weighing needs.

The Myweigh Advantage

The Ketogenic Diet

There has been some discussion and questions about which scale is adequate for use with the Ketogenic Diet. We have developed several scales that happen to be particularly suited for this use. It is important to use a 0.01 gram measuring scale for this requirement. In addition the weighing device must be pocket sized in order to ensure that you will be able to travel with the scale and take it to restaurants. While a table sized balance may be slightly more accurate, we have seen over the past 10 years that most long term users of weighing devices for the Ketogenic Diet prefer portability over extreme accuracy. The needs of a consumer seeking weighing devices for the Ketogenic Diet differ slightly from that of a Diabetic sugar monitor weighing requirement. While both do require high precision, Ketogenic weighing often requires more precision with less tolerance. As a matter of policy We do not directly recommend any diet or scale for this diet and ask you to speak with your physician for the proper scale required for your needs. Only your physician knows if the diet is right for you and which type of weighing device will match your particular needs.

This information is provided with assistance by our friends at Balances.com and is NOT MEDICAL ADVICE. The Ketogenic Diet rigid diet is for the treatment of epileptic seizures, either in conjunction with, or in place of anticonvulsant. The diet is recommended for seizure control when anti-convulsants and medications have failed. The diet is thought to help in children under 10 years of age, mostly because of compliance problems, but can be used in older children and adults.

The Ketogenic Diet is a therapeutic and specially calculated diet that is high in fat and low in protein and carbohydrates. The stringent, mathematically calculated diet when followed conscientiously produces a by-product called ketones in patients' blood and urine. High concentrations of ketones in the body control the frequency and severity of seizures, although the biochemical mechanisms for this phenomenon are not yet known.

The diet must be done with medical supervision and treated with the same respect as any other anticonvulsant medication. Approximately half of the children who go on the diet become seizure free, and another large percentage have enough improvement to continue the diet.

Most patients remain on this diet for at least two years, during which time medications may be reduced and even discontinued. Although the diet is high-fat, patients do not gain weight because their caloric intake is restricted to 75 percent of their required daily allowance. The diet is supplemented with vitamins and calcium, so patients do not suffer from any nutritional imbalance. It is extremely important to weigh all foods and calculate protein and caloric percentages during the entire diet. Certain scales such as the Palmscale PS8-300 may be particularly well suited as the calculation function can be used to compute caloric intake. However we again ask you to speak to your physician to have a scale recommended to you.
